The Forums & Indicators
Three Community Forums
A total of nearly 300 people from the Worcester community attended Common Pathways’ first Forum held on November 31, 2005 at the YWCA of Worcester and the second Forum held on April 5, 2006 at Clark University to provide feedback about their likes and dislikes regarding life in Worcester. We conducted the Third Community Forum on March 26, 2008 at Mount Carmel Community Center. In addition, Common Pathways gathered small groups of residents by age, ethnic and cultural background, economic sectors, and special interest groups including the disabled community and small businesses. They discussed issues relevant to their own community and provided specific feedback as a basis for selecting our community indicators.
Worcester Community Indicators
We completed the "Preliminary Common Pathways Worcester Community Indicators Report" that includes six themes with examples of community indicators for each theme. The themes are: Education, Economic Development, Housing, Public Health and Medical Services, Social and Mental Health Services, and Transportation.
The Indicators Report was reviewed at the Third Community Forum on March 26, 2008. The participants at this forum were asked to review one of the indicator’s themes in a small group discussion and reflect about emerging issues on that theme. Then, they suggested actions and activities that could move forward one or more indicators in that theme. A small group of leaders in each theme facilitated the discussion and committed to take steps toward securing a specific action plan for that theme.
